During the annual award show, many were forced to look away after Ariana was caught up in a very awkward red carpet interview with reporter Marc Malkin, who is the Senior Culture & Events Editor at Variety. Throughout the interview, the journalist asked a number of questions about the 31-year-old actresses’ award show prep and then attempted to get her to break out in song. After she politely tried to play along, the reporter decided to do a solo performance instead.

After he sang a few lines from Carole King’s hit song ‘You’ve Got a Friend,’ the Wicked star supportively clapped for his efforts. After the strained interaction, the reporter then cracked an awkward joke about how she wasn’t going to go back on tour again. The reporter said: “I’m going to be opening up for Ariana who’s not going to be going on tour by the way – just to let you know that cause I know the fans are asking, but it’s about acting.”
