Inside Man, billed as ‘one of Denzel Washington’s best movies’, is availble to stream right now on Netflix. The cinematic gem from 2006 should not be mixed up with the well-received TV drama of the same title starring David Tennant.
Under Spike Lee’s direction, Washington is said to notch up whats widely regarded as his most polished act to date and lets not brush aside Jodie Fosters absolutely riveting moment in the film either. At its core, Inside Man is a heist thriller featuring the esteemed two-time Oscar winner as a shamed NYPD detective and hostage negotiator.
Clive Owen stars as the bank robber Dalton Russell, who seizes a Manhattan bank, triggering Washington and his colleague to engage in a tense standoff. But it quickly transpires that theres more than meets the eye in this heist, revealing a concealed secret with immense and possibly catastrophic implications.
On the ratings front, it’s snagged a respectable 7.6 on IMDB, while Rotten Tomatoes users have given it a thumbs-up with an 85% score from critics and audiences alike.
One critic put: “Inside Man’s one of the best suspense-mysteries of the last 30 years, and it doesn’t get the respect it deserves. It’s NOT a heist film, but it’s packaged like a heist film, and there’s a lot going on.
“You’ll be pleasantly surprised by how many plot twists there are. It’s perfectly cast too – everyone’s in the perfect role/attitude they should be in. Very re-watchable, exceptionally well-written and acted, and expertly directed.”
